Are Induction Cooktops Safe?
Induction cooktop, also known as electric cooktop, is one of the most popular types of cooktops preferred by consumers today, replacing gas cooktops. The reason why users choose this type of cooktop is because it is convenient, clean, takes up minimal space, easy to move around, and easy to use. In addition, many people believe that induction cooktops are safer than gas cooktops. Is this really true? This article below will help readers find the answer to this question.
-
Advantages of induction cooktops
Unlike gas or charcoal cooktops, induction cooktops have the following outstanding advantages:
- Induction cooktops generate heat by creating magnetic fields, which cook the food. Therefore, they do not produce smoke and minimize the risk of fire, explosion, or gas leaks compared to gas cooktops.
- Since induction cooktops operate on electricity, they are compact, easy to install, and do not take up much space.
- The glass surface of induction cooktops is easy to clean.
- Induction cooktops are equipped with residual heat indicators, making it easy for users to adjust the temperature.
- The cooling system increases safety for users and extends the lifespan of the induction cooktop.
- Induction cooktops are installed with overload protection systems for temperature and voltage. Therefore, when the usage temperature is too high, the cooktop will automatically shut off.
- The anti-shock system prevents the risk of electric shocks for users.
Therefore, with these outstanding advantages, it can be seen that using an induction cooktop is relatively safe, especially for families with young children or for those living in apartments and collective houses where the risk of fire, explosion, or gas leaks is minimized.

Precautions when using an induction cooktop
- Pay attention to the voltage used by the cooktop: Normally, cooktops manufactured in foreign countries are used with a voltage of 110V. In this case, users need to equip themselves with a step-down transformer to make the cooktop operate at a suitable voltage of 220V in line with the electrical grid in Vietnam.
- Check the power consumption of the cooktop and the power supply in the household. If the power supply does not meet the required power of the cooktop, it should not be used.
- Do not place the induction cooktop near hot and humid areas, or near flammable objects.
- Place the cooktop in a well-ventilated area, at least 15cm away from the wall and at least 5cm away from other objects.
- Do not use glass, aluminum, copper, or clay pots to cook with an induction cooktop. Only iron or enamel-coated iron pots can be used.
- Ensure that there is water or food in the cooking utensils to prevent the cooktop surface from cracking or blistering due to high temperatures.
- Do not pour water or use sharp objects to clean the cooktop surface.
- Minimize spilling or splashing water onto the cooktop. Do not place the cooktop near a TV, recording device, etc., to avoid interference.
- If the cooktop is not working properly, it should be taken to a professional repair center and not be disassembled, installed, or replaced by oneself.
- Place the cooktop at a height where it is out of reach of children. Do not wipe the cooktop when it is still hot.
